Founded in 1973, the University of Idaho is a regionally accredited institution of higher education that provides correspondence graduate courses to prisoners. While no degrees are available via correspondence education, courses are offered in library science. Courses cost $140 per credit hour plus a $25 fee per course. Incarcerated students have 12 months to complete each course and can receive a 6-month extension for $75. All courses are available in a paper-based format.

The University of Idaho also offers correspondence courses to prisoners at the undergraduate level of study.
